The Campaign

Project Cost

After careful and prayerful consideration, we have embarked on a $5,000,000 capital campaign to construct a much-needed new classroom building. The total cost of this project is estimated to be $4,250,000.

  • Construction: $4,000,000

  • FF&E: $250,000

Why Now?

Despite fluctuations in enrollment throughout its history, SMMS has continued a steady growth path since 2012, positively impacting our community and remaining a beacon of hope in the Archdiocese of San Antonio reaffirming the need for affordable, dual language, Catholic education. Like all Catholic schools, SMMS relies heavily on fundraising to close the gap of their operating expenses. Despite our demographic as a Title 1 school, we have shown a profound ability to step up fundraising efforts when the need arises, outperforming other schools and nonprofit organizations of similar budget size.

In the interest of informing plans for the school’s future amidst continued growth and in the wake of our community’s galvanization, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller approved that SMMS retain Guidance In Giving in April 2023 to conduct a feasibility study to determine our community’s fundraising capacity for a capital campaign. The study was conducted from April through May 2023, and the results indicated that SMMS has the ability to raise upwards of $1M from the school families, alumni, and donors over a three year campaign period.

In April 2024, our community was abundantly blessed with a seed donor based out of Walnut, CA, Shea Family Charities, who committed to kickstart our campaign with $2,000,000 (to be funded when we are ready to break ground) to help drive momentum and success. But to take full advantage of their donation, we must move quickly to close the gap in total funds needed.

Call to Action

We humbly ask for your support of this campaign to ensure a quality, dual language, Catholic education will continue to be accessible to as many students as possible in an underserved community.

With $2M from Shea Family Charities and $1M from our internal community, suddenly our dream is within reach, leaving another $2M to close the campaign gap. SMMS is blessed with contributors from its extended community, facilitating further immersion into a mission of inclusivity and diversity.

In John 14:12, Jesus says to his disciples, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do…” It is from this scripture that our campaign name was inspired. At SMMS, we’re developing leaders of the future who will go out and do “greater things” with Christ in their hearts. Help us build a school where all children can do just that!
